A Spring Isle Of Skye Elopement

The Isle of Skye is one of my all-time favourite spots in the UK, so when Kristen and David got in touch to ask me through Wild Heart Elopements to photograph their Isle of Skye elopement, I knew it was going to be magical. Coming all the way from Tennessee, this pair chose Skye for several reasons, one being that both places have a similar mountain structure, making it almost a home away from home. They chose to elope just the two of them.

Bridal prep at Skeabost Hotel

For this one I had the pleasure of working alongside the brilliant Alex from Studio Lester.

We arrived at the Skeabost hotel bright and early, where the lovely Bonny was putting the finishing touches on Kristen’s hair and makeup. It was a lovely, chilled vibe, with Kristen and David choosing to spend the morning together. After capturing all the little details, like the flowers from The Wee Shed, an embroidered shawl from The Tartan Blanket Co, and a beautiful necklace gifted to Kristen from her grandma, David got ready before heading out to let me help Kristen into her beautiful floral lace dress.

The couple then had a heartfelt first look on the hotel grounds.

Ceremony at The Fairy Glen

The pair chose to have their ceremony at the magical Fairy Glen. The humanist ceremony was conducted by the wonderful Francesca, who told the story of how they met and everything they love about each other. As they said their vows, they held a rock from the Glen between their hands, giving them something tangible to keep to remind them of their promises—until they very quickly lost it. But don’t worry, David found a replacement.

They also chose to have a traditional handfasting, where fabric is wrapped around their arms, tying them together before they step back and create a knot, an ancient Highland tradition. They finished the ceremony by exchanging rings and sharing a first kiss. The whole thing was super intimate, with only sheep as their guests.

The Quiraing & Sligchan

Alex and I then took the couple to some of our favorite spots for a little adventure. Starting with the Quiraing, we wandered through the amazing scenery. Sometimes being a photographer is hard because you can see an image but can’t get high enough to create it. Alex, however, had the genius idea of me shooting from the top of his camper van and, being an absolute team player, even gave me a leg up. Alex, you’re a legend.

From here we ventured to Sligachan for the amazing backdrop of the Cuillin mountain range. Here the couple celebrated with a champagne spray, which Kristen absolutely nailed. I then drove the pair back to Skye to have a romantic meal in the bell tower and an evening together.
